September 2025 Newsletter

Greetings from Sundey Hill Farm at harvest time! This newsletter brings you details of all that has been going over the summer.

The main event was the Scrutopia Summer School which was the focus of Abbi and Sophie’s work since the last newsletter. 2025 was the eighth year in which we have hosted Scrutopia and we have learnt so much from previous guests and events which meant we could deliver a well balanced and fun week. Our theme, What kind of freedoms really matter? inspired many people to join, including a few who had attended before and wished to return knowing the content would be fresh. It also enabled us to invite guest lecturers who could bring their own personal and unique perspective. Our special guest speaker at the gala dinner was Professor Kathleen Stock, who drew many people to the event including alumni. Professor Stock, mentioned that she found the whole occasion and the philosophical audience very refreshing and even indicated she would be happy to be invited again. The full programme can be found here and a full report of the week’s discussion and activities can be found here. We find Scrutopia incredibly rewarding to host as the people who join the course are so friendly and so keen to make the most of every aspect. We all appreciated the unique opportunity to learn and to offer our open minds to the lecturers. One of our participants Lynda Goetz shows some of the nuances of our discussion in her recent article.
